AWE 180 Technology®

AWE 180 Technology®

AWE's patented 180 Technology® works a little something like this: As exhaust gases exit the engine and flow into an AWE 180 Technology®-equipped resonator, they pass through strategically located ports, and into reflection chambers.

Sound waves, carried by these exhaust gasses, bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. Depending on the sound requirements of each vehicle, AWE acoustic engineers adjust the size and location of the ports and the chambers. By controlling the size and location of these key elements, we also control when the sound waves exit the chambers. The specific timing of when the reflected sound waves re-join the main exhaust flow creates a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree out-of-phase sound wave that cancels out problematic frequencies.

Consistency through change.
AWE 180 Technology® is not on a “one size fits all” concept. Rather, AWE engineers design sound cancelation resonators based upon the specific acoustics generated by vehicle types, thereby ensuring perfect sound, every time. It’s one of the reasons AWE exhausts have earned a reputation for the perfect tone, regardless of application.
What it means to you.
The result? The removal of unwanted tones in all AWE 180 Technology®-equipped exhaust systems. The sound produced by this formula is the perfect, signature note. Unlocked performance and spot-on tone, every time.

AWE Dyno Comparison vs OEM

AWE’s Mustang dyno comparison shows the stock 2022 Subaru BRZ producing 225 wheel horsepower and 171 lb-ft of wheel torque. With the AWE Touring Edition Catback installed, output increased to 227 wheel horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque—a peak improvement of 2 whp and 1 lb-ft.

More importantly, the AWE-equipped run closely follows the factory power curve without introducing an obvious loss elsewhere in the rev range. The characteristic midrange torque dip remains, while the modified run shows a slight advantage through portions of the upper RPM range.

Because changes this small may fall within normal dyno variation, this graph should not be interpreted as evidence of a dramatic horsepower increase. Instead, it shows that the AWE Touring Edition maintains the BRZ’s factory power delivery while potentially offering a modest improvement. The primary reasons to choose this catback remain its sound and driving character, with any additional power serving as a welcome bonus.

2027 Toyota GR86 First Look | 86 Day VLOG

We're back out in California for 86 Day! I crammed in as much into these few days as I could. We installed an UEL header onto Kyle's VB WRX with the stock catback, went to an 86 meet hosted by / anothergr86   and  / thatredgr866  , hosted our own meet with @spamsubie at @BattleAero , then we set up our booth over at Alpharex for their 86 Day meet with GR Movement which was a huge success! I probably saw more 86s there than I've seen in 3 years in Iowa! Thank you to everyone who came by to say hi! After that, we spent the next morning ripping some canyon roads with Tim and Adriel's GR86s!

Two Build Philosophies: Which is best for your GR86/BRZ?

The second-generation Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ are not cars people buy because they dominate a spec sheet. They are light, responsive, approachable, and rewarding at speeds that can still be enjoyed on a good road. That creates an interesting...
