13-22+ 86 BRZ FRS GR86 SPL Parts Solid Subframe Bushings

For heavy duty driving needs, you'll be looking at upgrading rear subframe bushings from the aging and overworked OEM rubber to something else to eliminate subframe movement and deflections.

SPL Solid Subframe Bushings (SSB) for the GR86 / 86 / BRZ / FRS replace the aging, soft rubber subframe mounting bushings to eliminate subframe movement and offer shims to alter the rear anti-squat percentage and correct the rear roll center. All of the rear suspension and drivetrain components are mounted to the subframe, which is then mounted to the chassis, meaning all rear cornering, accel, and brake loads interact through the subframe bushings. These bushings deflect under the load allowing the entire subframe to pitch, heave, and move around. In some cases the subframe can even bounce and cause wheel hop.

Anti-Squat Adjustment

The included 0.25" and 0.33" shims allow for the anti-squat geometry to be adjusted by changing the subframe's installed angle.

Anti-squat geometry prevents rear squat by directing the rearward load shift (during acceleration) into the control arms rather than into the springs. This can be advantageous for cars that need to maintain their chassis height for aerodynamic efficiency or to reduce the amount of rear camber or toe change. Excessive anti-squat can result in oversteer or wheel spin in some setups due to the rapid loading/unloading of the tire. It also reduces the influence of typical transitory tuning tools such as compression and rebound dampening due to the shock's reduced movement.

Race/Drift Rules Compliant

Some series regulations, such as Formula D, require subframes to be installed at stock heights/angles. The default install orientation for the SPL kit is compliant with these rules and maintains the OEM installed orientation.

Key Features:

  • Adjustable Anti-Squat
  • Lightweight: 3.91 lbs (1.77 kg) as Installed
  • Eliminates Subframe Movement/Hop due to Bushing Deflection
  • Improves Suspension, Braking, and Throttle Response
  • Never Need to Replace Subframe Bushings Again

Materials

  • 6061-T6 Aluminum Bushings and Spacers
  • Rubber Isolators

Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)

The subframe bushings are a moderate contributor to NVH. If installed with other spherical arms they will increase the amount of road and drivetrain noise transmitted to the cabin. If you have solid or higher durometer differential bushings then this will increase the amount of differential noise that is transmitted to the cabin. Ride harshness will also increase over potholes and sharper bumps, but otherwise unaffected. There are some NVH improvements as well, particularly rapid clutch and throttle inputs will have less "whip" and vibration, which is more noticeable in low-speed traffic and cars with higher mileage / worn OEM bushings.
